snaps with a /home/$USER symlink not working?

I wind up upgrading my Ubuntu by using a symlink of my /home/teuben to
/a7/teuben20   (don't ask....)

But my snap now doesn't work anymore, i get an error message

cannot create user data directory: /home/teuben/snap/yakyak/65: Not
a directory

but there must be a deeper meaning since that thing is a directory, and
I can write things in there. The only thing I can think of is that my
home directory is a symlink to another partition.

I can run this particular tool by just executing

     /snap/yakyak/65/yakyak/yakyak

I tried installing the snap-store, but it has the same type of error.
Sounds like a bug to me?
