Aha! Could be. So if the dependency were switched to lightdm, bingo, no GNOME?

My download from last night would not install so I am trying to
download it again.

I got it to boot in a VM, but I am concerned to see that the Live USB
environment is using GNOME. :-(

If I can get it to install and work, I will talk to them and see if I
can assist in cutting the requirements down.
