Don't. Seriously.

[1] It's harder work.

[2] DOS does work in true VMs, e.g. Virtualbox, but it's *extremely*
hard to get anything into or out of the VM.

[3] There's DOSemu, a dedicated DOS VM, but it's intended for working
with DOS apps, not for running games, and it's not very compatible.

No, the answer is to run a DOS emulator intended for running old
games, and luckily for you, there is just such a thing.
