Not just group, after a basic fresh install I restore my entire system
by moving the home dirs back into /home/ from my unpacked archive,
using joe to restore the contents of group, passwd and shadow, reboot
and use chown on the user's home directories.
OK for me with very few users, maybe not with many users. No doubt it
can be done with a script. Thankfully I don't have responsibility for
hundreds of users.
