My daily UI for my Ubuntu 16.04 as well as my Arch Linux install is
openbox.

On a regular basis I'm using Linux live medias, most of the times
Ubuntu flavours, e.g. to backup my machine's bare metal installs.
A while back, among other I tested Ubuntu Budgie 19.04, but I'm back to
Xubuntu. A few days back I migrated from the now _really_ _completely_
discontinued Xubuntu 18.10 to 19.10 live DVD. Note, I run a script
after booting a live DVD. I've got similar, but a little bit different
scripts for different Ubuntu flavours.

There was no need to edit the Xubuntu script.

[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ ls -hAl xubumatic1*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 rocketmouse rocketmouse 5.0K Sep 21 12:49 xubumatic1810.sh
lrwxrwxrwx 1 rocketmouse rocketmouse   16 Mar  6 19:42 xubumatic1910.sh -> xubumatic1810.sh

However, IMO Ubuntu Budgie is a PITA, Ubuntu Mate as well as even
Ubuntu (Gnome) are way better in my experiences, let alone Xubuntu.
