Hey there,

I've done it once and then made myself a reminder note for how to do
it correctly that I check if it's been a while since I've done it and
want to format one.

I'm a big fan of FSlint for that. It's in the Ubuntu repositories and
I've used it for years. If you've never used it, buckle your seat
belt, because you're going to find a ton of stuff you need to take
care of in your files. It's got the "Bad names" button you can click
to check for those, with four different levels of sensitivity. You'd
want it at at least level 3, and probably level 4 to be sure you
catch everything. Liam might want to use this, too, to make sure
transfers to and from OneDrive go smoothly.

I get the colons and brackets, but spaces? Oh, boy. If those are
considered bad, I've got thousands upon thousands of files I'd have
to rename. I don't quite understand why those are bad, though. I've
got files with spaces in their names on my Windows computer and I
don't remember ever having any trouble transferring files with spaces
in their names between my Windows and GNU/Linux machines.

Yeah, that's how it ends up going when there are updates. As a result
of changes due to circumstances connected with the upcoming
release of the new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Ubuntu won't be offering a
program I depend on daily, so I'm heavily on the hunt for a new one.
It's not for backing up, though, so it doesn't belong in this thread.
