I took Grizzly's advice and made a Windows recovery drive. Then I blew
Windows away completely. As is so often the case with Windows, it just
wasn't worth the time. And I get 60GB more space to fill up with Linux
goodness.

I didn't know about fast booting etc... maybe next time. Thanks for the
tip. I don't know if that was the problem though; I would have thought
gparted would deal with it a bit more gracefully than hanging and
crashing.

At least this time I did not have to figure out EFI. It Just Worked
(tm) after the mandatory fiddling with BIOS settings.

Now I have the usual decision to make - restore all my crap, er, I mean
diligently collected data - or start fresh?

So far I can report that the Lenovo Legion Y540(15) seems to take to
Linux quite naturally. Brightness control doesn't work, so there may be
other small things that come to light, but it seems to work pretty well
out of the box.

Regards, K.
