"IF" (that's a big if :->) you are lucky and have time and/or a fast connection 
you could "do-release-upgrade" in these steps

11.10 -> 12.04 LTS 
12.04 LTS -> 14.04 LTS
14.04 LTS -> 16.04 LTS
run apt full-update & apt upgrade
16.04 LTS -> 18.04 LTS 
run apt full-update & apt upgrade
now if your box is 64 bit, then either 
18.04 LTS -> 20.04 LTS
or wait for 20.04.1 LTS

or back up your own data and start afresh, 

it's usually best to 

apt full-update & apt upgrade
apt autoremove & apt autoclean

before any do-release-upgrade, to ensure you are as updated as possible, but 
AFAIK 11.10, 12.04, 14.04 have no updates anymore
