Workspaces Queston

Good Morning,

I am running 4 workspaces on 18.04.4 LTS.

There are 4 windows that contain an instance of Firefox, one in each for 
the workspaces. Each may contain multiple tabs (1 - 4).

My question is: Are they all "running" if the workspace is NOT on the 
screen or are they "waiting"?
