Ubuntu 20.04 Installation does not detect Windows 10 is already installed

I had exactly this problem, and got two valuable suggestions:
One person (may have been Colin Law?) advised making a restore USB
drive, so that worst case. Windows could still be recovered later. I
did this.
Someone else (Liam Proven) then suggested that it is important to
disable Windows "fast boot" before trying to install Ubuntu beside it.
Sadly by the time I saw this suggestion I had already blown away
Windows because life is too short :-)
IMPORTANT: I did not successfully dual-boot Windows10 and Ubuntu 20.04.
