is repeating in an endless loop, with the xsession-errors file
increasing in size by a kB about every second.

The file had got to about 18.5GB when it wiped out my home directory free space.

The error message should not be being endlessly repeated, and, being
written to the error file in an endless loop, should it?

In order to prevent whatever is doing that to the file, so as to wipe
out my free disk space in my home directory, from again wiping out my
free disk space, I have now, for the second time, deleted the file.
After I deleted the file the first time, I had to reboot, to free up
the space occupied by the file - <SHIFT><DELETE> had not freed up the
disk space.
