Here's how I did it:
in the BIOS Boot menu:
Fast Boot [Enabled]
Boot Option Priorities:
Boot Priority #1 [UEFI CDROM]
Boot Priority #2 [UEFI HDD]
During Ubuntu 18.04 install:
Installation type: Something else
On sda:
Created new partition table.
Added these partitions:
500MB Primary partition, use as EFI System Partition
2048MB Primary partition, use as swap space
18690.64GB Primary partition, ext4, mount point /
