Have to say, I agree, at least WRT e-mail. I see zero reason spam even
exists in this day of cryptographic domain validation. Indeed, just
last night, I finally got DKIM working on my domain's emails, with the
help of
https://www.stevejenkins.com/blog/2011/08/installing-opendkim-rpm-via-yum-with-postfix-or-sendmail-for-rhel-centos-fedora/
.
(Which, granted, was aimed at RH/CentOS/Fedora, but had essentials that
did the job for Ubuntu -- especially appreciated the autoresponder DKIM
validation addresses, though only the port25 one is working right.)
So if you check the headers of this e-mail, you'll see a DKIM signature
from jots.org, my domain, and you *know* it legitimately came from me.
There are other mechanisms that help, too, such as SPF. I'd love to put
a line in the sand -- say, 2/22/2022 (because why not?) -- and have that
be when Google, Hotmail, etc., would cease accepting unsigned e-mail.
$.02,
