Wanted, a simple GUI calendar that uses local files, not evolution server dependent

I was looking for an off-line calendar about a year ago and couldn't
find any that I liked, so I ended up going with pal. It displays a
calendar on the command line by default, but can also create an HTML
or LaTeX calendar (I just use it on the command line). You control it
with one config file and one text file (or, if you want to get fancy,
you can separate your event types into multiple text files).

In the event that you don't find what you're looking for either, it's
in the Ubuntu repositories. If you'd like to see it and read a bit
