At least in the past they unlikely were a security risk, but usually the
images were modified, either to """""improve""""" the default install
or to get several releases of different distros on one media.

Those """"improvements""""" of defaults or shrinking of the original
installers _always_ came with problems.

Nowadays, at least in Germany, computer magazines don't care much about
Linux at all. AFAIK they only care for Linux as a rescue media for
broken Windows installs and they hype docker, but no "regular" Linux
installs.
