Documents folder missing after UEFI?

Have you tried using find to search the whole disc for a file that you
have lost, in case somehow they have got moved?
sudo find / -name somefile.name

Another thought, is it possible that rather than upgrading you have
done a new install to a different or new partition or drive and that
your old stuff is still sitting there where it always was?
