External touchpad for Ubuntu?

When it comes to linux I am NOT a highly-technically-skilled user.

The bash script I got off the internet to toggle the touchpad enable/disable
does not work on my system.  I hard coded the device ID to get it to work,
after a few days I think I have figured out why it does not work.  Now I am
trying to figure how to fix the code so it will work properly (I am not a bash
programmer).
