Recommendation for a scanner?

I've narrowed down the candidates, and it looks like I'll settle on the
HP Officejet Pro 7720 Wide.

I have one more question. On the web, I found that a related device, the HP
OfficeJet Pro 8610 has some problems. The ink on the printout is likely to
smear, and the ADF is unreliable. 

What experience have you made with regard to those two issues? Especially
the ADF, is it reliable?
