Unwelcome change to Thunderbird

This may seem stupid but it's worth a try if you're still having no joy.

Shut down Thunderbird. Backup your chrome folder somewhere. Delete the chrome directory from the Thunderbird directory. Then, redo the work from scratch, creating the chrome directory, creating the .css file and adding the contents, THEN restart Thunderbird.

I was using userChrome.css to make the overall Thunderbird font bigger, and I had the same problem, that the changes were not being displayed. I saw a comment somewhere, to delete and start again, and that worked for me.
