I have a T420 with 19.04 on, so if you can tell me what the media file
is, I could try...

You've not specified what version of Ubuntu.

Have you got all the optional 3rd party codecs installed?

If not, do:

sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras -y

Replace the word "ubuntu" with the name of your remix if you're using
a remix, e.g.

sudo apt install xubuntu-restricted-extras -y

or

sudo apt install lubuntu-restricted-extras -y

Then reboot and try again.
