sane-airscan has Debian binaries. You manage Debian binaries every time
you use Synaptic. The only difference here is that the sane-airscan
binary is installed "by hand" .

Assuming the .deb is downloaded into your Downloads directory, I would
do:

  cd ~/Downloads
  apt install ./sane-airscan_0.9.17+54.1_amd64.deb

To remove from the system:

  apt purge sane-airscan

Quite straightforward, really.

Personally, I have little desire to troubleshoot HPLIP and its bugs.
I will, however, remind ypu that a plugin is required for scanner
operation with your device.
