Enable soundcard?

Forgot to mention, that if I crank up the volume on the speakers, the sound 
almost goes away. But it's not like those old stereos, where turning the 
volume knob made a scratchy sound in the speaker until you kinda "loosened" 
it by turning the volume up and down for a while.
