Since the description of the sound isn't the same as hearing it, the
best approach is to record the sound.
Computers aren't good shielded, the sound caused by a computer
is unique. A TV could have impact, too, but it would be a different
sound. Yes, connect it to the TV, since line inputs without a
connection could produce issues, too. Just ensure that the computer is
far, far away.
However, if it's a very fast chirping or twittering sound, it's likely
caused by the computer. If it's a slowly repeated crackling sound, then
the old speaker's amps are likely broken.
