Behind my display is room and behind the room there are a few
cm of wall and on the left and right side of those few cm of wall are
doors. IOW not everybody has got a wall behind the display ;).
Standing waves are an issue in almost all homes. How much bass you hear
depends on the distance of the speaker/s to the wall, of the distance
from wall to wall and/or other reflecting barriers and at the location
of your ears. If you walk through the even very small room, you should
notice that the intensity of bass does change a lot.
From the English manual of the OP's mobo, 1-14 Chapter 1: Product
introduction:
"Port Headset
2.1-channel
Light Blue (Rear Line In
panel)
Lime (Rear panel) Line Out
Pink (Rear panel) Mic In"
"Lime" is "Front Speaker out" for 4.1, 5.1 and 7.1.
So the OP needs to connect "Line out" with an amp or active speakers.
From the English manual of the OP's mobo, ASUS AM1M-A 1-19:
"AM1M-A Front panel audio connector"
The manual shows the "HD-audio-compliant
pin definition" and the "Legacy AC’97
compliant definition" and mentions "If you want to connect a high
definition front panel audio module to this connector, set the Front
Panel Type item in the BIOS to [HD]. See section 2.6.5 Onboard Devices
Configuration for details."
However, for the rear panel line out jack it doesn't matter.
