Hi,

they are most likely 3.5 mm sockets soldered on the mobo, IOW they are
much likely connected with the mobo.

Those are the relevant audio ports. Duplex just means input + output.

In a terminal running

  lsmod | grep snd

shows the loaded audio drivers and running

  aplay -l

the available audio output devices, but this is seemingly ok.

I don't know what "system settings" is for. Since the headphones work
either "Analog Stereo Output" or "Analog Stereo Duplex" apparently is
already selected.

Maybe the aux outputs are muted by probably pulseaudio and/or alsa.

In a terminal running

  alsamixer

could be used to set volumes of the outputs. I don't know how to
control the pulseaudio sound server since I never used it.

OTOH I'm a little bit puzzled. I don't use onboard audio. I've got a
professional and a pro-sumer audio card mounted and in addition an
USB pro-sumer audio device is available, while apart from HDMI
audio the on-board device is turned off by the BIOS. My mobo's aux
output is also the headphone output, it just provides additional
surround outputs. If you don't want to use surround audio, you probably
just ned to connect an amp or acrive speakers to the phones output.

Ralf
