Update:
I removed VB 6.0.10 and reinstalled 5.2.32 - still no sound. I'm
beginning to suspect it was something on the Xubuntu side that was
updated and broke the connection.
It's worth noting that the VB sound device is the Intel HD Audio,
which is connected through my monitor, but the Analog Stereo device,
which goes to my speakers, is not visible or selectable for the VB
machines.
I hesitate to try anything further with messing with any of the audio
device controls in VB on any other VMs because the one that I found
the problme on is now hard crashing on every boot, even with the audio
disabled. I have an entry in on the VB forums about this.
