How do I change the colour of the prompt text in terminal emulators

>From the web page Customising Bash Prompt, I edited .bashrc, commented
out all the lines in the "if" statement relating to colour, except the
line " color_prompt = " (with whitespace after the "+" sign), saved,
then opened a new instance of the terminal emulator, and, the prompt
text was back to black, and, in the terminal emulator, using Edit ->
Preferences, I set the font value back to Monospace (and, adjusted the
font size, for readability), and, so, now, it is all fixed.
