xubuntu 19.10 fails to install with /boot on different drive - grub-install error

Hi,

I wonder what steps would follow after successfully installing grub to
the boot partition. Maybe it doesn't matter, that the installation to
the wrong partition failed.

Maybe this is the last step or at least the last step before editing
keyboard layout, time zone and similar settings.

Assuming all packages are already installed, you could install grub
using a live media and if not already done, set up keyboard layout,
locals etc. when running a session.

IMO it's already bad, that users are forced to install a boot loader at
all.

I'm using syslinux of another Linux install:

[weremouse at moonstudio ~]$ grep bind /etc/fstab
/mnt/archlinux/.boot/ubuntu_moonstudio/boot /boot none bind 0 0

Let alone users who even don't need a kernel, since they run Ubuntu
flavours in a container only. Actually I'm doing it right now, but
sometimes I run my Ubuntu install standalone.

Regards,
Ralf
