It's a triple boot system and drive works fine in windows 7, but not in 
opensuse or ubuntu, so I know the problem is with how linux handles 
floppy drives.

Strangely, if using a floppy drive with a regular floppy ribbon 
connector on the motherboard it works fine. Also works fine with USB 
floppy drives.

The problem is with SCSI floppy drives and also on one PC with a floppy 
drive but there is a floppy to usb header converter because the 
motherboard does not have a floppy connector. In these situations linux 
is identifying the drives as hard disks not floppy disks and I don't 
know how to make it work correctly.
