Ok my Asus may be a bit older and runs Ubuntu (17.04 Aardvark for now), but 
Wifi works fine, you may have hit an old problem that many may have thought 
gone

The Wifi card could be a Broadcom (my card is a BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g])

could you try

Sudo lshw -c network

if it turns out to be a Broadcom it will (probably) work fine

post results, I have a script that sorts this,  many of my lappies have 
Broadcom cards
