What kind of interface is it, then? What connects the caddy to the mobo?

(?) Why the image? Why not clone to the destination disk? Attached via
USB if necessary?

If cloning directly this would not be necessary. Which is why I'm
asking since this step apparently gives the error.

OK... but if you get the size right in the first place, might not be needed.

Also, what is in /dev/sda1?
