resolv.conf questions

Does anyone on the list have a problem with posts going into junk mail?
I'm on hotmail and just found the OP on this topic in junk  :)
I've got entire lists going into junk but mostly random posts.

And to answer your question, obviously you would prefer local
resolution rather than going far far away to get a name lookup.
However the locals don't always work well.

After installing ubuntu-18.04 I found there are the lines in
/etc/resolv.conf:

nameserver 127.0.0.53
options edns0

I am not familiar with Linux enough, having questions that:

why does nameserver set up to this address rather than a public DNS such
as 8.8.8.8?

How to disable it?

what is options edns0?
