Query about parasitic firefox file

I've been reading this post ever since its first posting above. I'm
currently running Firefox 59.0.1 and wondering how the file Bret
mentions above got to be 1.5GB in size. On my Ubuntu 16.04.4LTS system
the file is only 

~/.mozilla/firefox/3ywsijd8.default
4096000 Mar 24 09:01 places.sqlite-wal

and I've been watching it for two days now.
