My /home is on the same partition as /, but it anyway should give you a
pointer into the right direction ;).

drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4.0K Jan 13 11:54 /home/
[rocketmouse at archlinux ~]$ ls -hAld /home/rocketmouse/
drwxr-x--- 136 rocketmouse rocketmouse 12K Mar 17
17:02 /home/rocketmouse/

The missing write access much likely is caused by a pitfall, the
missing execution access permission of the directory.
