Hi,

I installed Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, after a do-release-upgrade to
16.04 I run full-upgrade on a regular basis.

That I didn't experience an issue doesn't mean that it is impossible to
run into trouble, but at least it's an evidence that 16.04 isn't
completely broken.

[weremouse at moonstudio ~]$ lsb_release -a
LSB Version:	core-9.20160110ubuntu0.2-amd64:core-9.20160110ubuntu0.2-noarch:security-9.20160110ubuntu0.2-amd64:security-9.20160110ubuntu0.2-noarch
Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS
Release:	16.04
Codename:	xenial

While I didn't read the complete thread, I've got the impression that
there are no doubts that a broken drive is involved, so it's not far to
seek that even if there should be an Ubuntu bug, the broken drive still
remains as a serious source of trouble. The first step to get rid of
the problem, would be to replace the broken drive.

Regards,
Ralf
