about the list ...

Well, for one thing we had a problem caused by widespread adoption of DMARC
( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMARC ) by mailservers around the internet,
which objected to long-standing practices of mailing lists with respect to
headers. The practical effect was that most of our users got booted off
the list automatically because their mail servers were bouncing traffic
from the list.

We didn't spend any time announcing things on the list because the users
most affected would not have seen the traffic anyway.

Canonical have upgraded the mailman software, and all the booted members
have been invited back, but we were pretty much down for several weeks.
