Hi,
I installed a "tailored" Ubuntu from an Ubuntu 15.10 release candidate
image. During upgrades within the release candidate cycle I experience
one issue, systemd included systemd-nspawn, but during this not
official release development cycle, the package was split, so a package
systemd-container provided systemd-nspawn, IOW an upgrade removed
systemd-nspawn, without installing the package providing it. When 15.10
was an official release upgrades didn't cause issues, even the release
upgrade to 16.04 worked flawlessly.
My tailored Ubuntu is a minimal install, just using openbox and a few
services and apps + a few local build packages.
When using Ubuntu Mate 16.10 from a live media upgrades worked without
issues for a long time, but one day the upgrade within the release
cycle rendered the live media useless. However, even this is a
different situation to an installed Ubuntu, it indeed could become an
issue for those who do not upgrade regularly or who only do partial
upgrades. The first shouldn't cause an issue for a release model
distro, while the latter is an issue what ever kind of distro you are
using. Pinning and PPAs might cause partial upgrades without the user's
attention.
In short, an upgrade could cause issues, but the aggressive tone of
voice against me, who just wanted to rule out the PPA issue (an
unlikely cause still is a possible culprit), to provide good help + "I
can't recall now what I changed, but the profile started working again"
is speaking for itself. In this case the culprit most likely was
between keyboard and chair.
Regards,
Ralf
