Is the camcorder connection FireWire?  If so, Kino should be able to connect 
to it and read a (raw) DV stream.  I presume you want to download (upload?) 
video from the camcorder in order to edit it and produce a movie (eg a mp4 
file or a DVD or something like that).

And do a search for "video4linux".  I think that will get the info you are 
looking for.
