partition issues

I've got Ubuntu 16.04 on my Lenovo 14. This is on an SSD I installed that
did not have an OS on it. I am running out of space so I removed the copy
of 17.10

I can not expand SDA1 (I booted with a live cd). There is a an unallocated
sector that I can not delete and thus I can not expand SSD1 to take up the
free space I created by removing 17.04 which was installed in sda 6

I would supply a screen shot but in the past this has not been allowed on
this list.

Aside from wiping the SSD and starting over is there any way to remove that
unallocated sector?

Also I have 9.2 gigs of swap in SDA 5. That seems excessive or even
totally unnecessary. Ok to remove?

thanks

garyk
