Respectfully, I must disagree.
I use a vertical panel because much of what I do on my machine is
writing, and the panel at the top or bottom robs me of a full page per
screen - and I have a 28" 1980x1200 monitor for that express reason.
1920x1080 is not quite large enough for a full page unless I scrunch
the display down to less than 100%, which my aging eyes don't like -
my laptop at 17" with the same resolution is hard to use for this same
reason (small screen).
I suppose I could turn the monitor sideways, but then I lose having
two full page windows side by side when I need them, which is not too
infrequently. My laptop does not allow for this without an external
monitor (which has other issues).
