Yes, it's not a synaptic but a wayland problem. There's an RH bug
about gparted (and others) where a dev says that gparted and any app
that needs to run as root should use polkit. Since it's a problem
that's been unresolved for two years, there must be more work to do
than simply copy, for example, the NM polkit files and edit them.
Are you sure that "xhost ..." isn't using Xwayland rather than wayland
proper? I wouldn't expect wayland to use any "x"/"X" prefixed
executable or file natively.
