The problem with upgrading specific packages (rather than using
"apt-get [dist-]upgrade") is that, unless you are very careful,
packages that were previously marked as having been installed
automatically will be marked as having been installed purposefully.
Should you then uninstall a package, its unused dependencies will not
be uninstalled.

I don't use synaptic but I'm curious about this. Is synaptic being
called deprecated because it's not compatible with wayland? Will it
never be wayland-compatible? Does this mean that, with wayland, gtk
DEs will use packagekit and qt DEs will use muon? Can these two use
apt as a backend?
