While I don't particularly care for the array of apt* things,
including synaptic (which has been deprecated - grr), I have to say I
vastly prefer apt-get and synaptic over yum, yast and rpm  - way
simpler to use and manipulate, and unlike yum, apt resolves (almost)
all dependencies automatically.

I still use dpkg to install LibreOffice (in a script) - simple and convenient.

I don't use script(1) - never liked it.
