I don't think so, no. It seems needlessly pedantic to me.

The only UI shipped as standard on GNOME 3 now is GNOME Shell. There
used to be GNOME Classic, but it was removed and replaced with
Fallback Mode, until that was removed too.

Now there is only GNOME Shell. In other words, GNOME 3 and GNOME Shell
are now synonymous.

There are other desktops based on some of GNOME 3, but they have their
own names.
