$ grep --help | grep deprecated -B1
'egrep' means 'grep -E'.  'fgrep' means 'grep -F'.
Direct invocation as either 'egrep' or 'fgrep' is deprecated.

$ man grep | grep "grep -E"
In  addition,  the  variant programs egrep and fgrep are the same as
grep -E and grep -F, respectively.
