If you need to access tons of files for audio real-time multi-track hard
disk recording, noatime for HDDs could gain a lot. However, for
averaged usage the default for more or less all distros for good
reasons is relatime.
Nothing does last forever, but if gear does require special care,
because common usage would reduce the lifespan to a ridiculous short
duration, then it would be better not to use such crappy gear at all.
Fortunately urban myths such as the fragil SSD are apparently nonsense.
I can't say for sure how long a hard used SSD will last, the one I'm
using isn't old, but regarding your claims it's already old enough, that
it should be completely broken regarding my careless usage.
