Install to external (I think) SSD

Yeah, it might if you go with the default install, but you can choose 
the bootloader destination right?

But it is indeed a choice to make, and might not happen by default.

So indeed it is something to watch out for.

Personally I wouldn't do that, I like living on the edge ;-).
