Just FYI - I'm running Ubuntu 16.04, a clean install. I like some KDE
tools so I then also installed the KDE desktop. This fouled up the box
A LOT - it had many problems! Got a lot of help on this list [thanks
again!] but quite a few things were never resolved/fixed. It was so bad
I finally did a complete reinstall of 16.04. This time I only added a
few KDE tools, not the whole desktop [and yes, that does also load
lots of stuff too]. This caused fewer problems overall, but Ubuntu and
the KDE tools still DO NOT work well together. Since Nautilus, for
example, is such a disaster, I still prefer to use some KDE tools
instead and live with the problems.

The mix caused some odd OS-looking problems - at some point you might
consider an Ubuntu only install to see if that helps.
