That's good news!
Be aware though, that you have probably only temporarily fixed it. As
tracker seems to be composed of multiple executables and certainly uses
several libraries, you may now be running a sort of hybrid of the
Ubuntu version and your version. If everything works, that's cool, but
it may not last :-(
As Ralf pointed out, your next upgrade will try to put back the file
you renamed. Avoiding that means making several hard-to-remember little
fixes that ultimately will be way more trouble than they are worth.
I suggest (and because I have not personally done this I invite Ralf
and others to comment) that you:
- rename that executable back to "tracker"
- run "sudo apt-get purge tracker" (or whatever the package name is) to
completely remove the Ubuntu version and all its configuration and data
files
- run "sudo apt-get autoremove" to get rid of any now-not-needed
libraries and suchlike
- re-install your self-compiled version
- reboot [1]
That should give you a clean system, with no doubts as to what is
running. About the only downside is that your version will not receive
any updates; you will have to compile and install new versions
yourself.
Personally I would try to figure out what was wrong with the Ubuntu
version...
