How to tell which version of a application is running

The cute thing is that 
http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/tracker/filelist doesn't contain 
it

(notice the xenial, he is on xenial).

So another solution might be to install a newer version by pointing some 
apt repos to Yakkety

then install the newer version, hold it, and put your sources.list back 
to xenial?
